One Year in ParliamentDear Brian, This month marks one year since I was elected to represent you. In my next year, I will continue to focus on improving the services and infrastructure in our suburbs. I want to make sure our communities are liveable and that we have the best schools and access to reliable public transport. In my first year, I’ve fought for more buses, for our trains to run on time and given out grants to support our hard-working community organisations and P&C groups. I’ve written about the need to improve our State’s productivity and to get young people more involved in volunteering. I’m fighting for the lift to be replaced at Epping Train Station, and we’ve had a win on getting a bus stop re-instated (more on that below). As always, I am committed to ensuring that the work I do is guided by the views and perspectives of the people that I represent. You can tell me what’s important by filling out my survey or reaching out to my office at: epping@parliament.nsw.gov.au. It has been a genuine privilege to meet so many of you over this year and to advocate on your behalf. I’ve met with community groups, sporting groups, parents, students, families, teachers, front line workers and small business owners. Our community groups are doing inspiring work, our small businesses are working hard to create services and jobs in our local community and schools, and all their families create a sense of community and connection. If there is ever anything I can do to help you, please get in touch.
Pop up Office with Charles Chen Do you have an issue or concern you wish to raise? Come along to my pop-up office with Deputy Lord Mayor Clr Charles Chen. See you there!
More Funding to Fix Potholes Funding has been made available to fix potholes on our roads and I want Epping to get its share. If you know of a pothole in your suburb that is in desperate need of filling or fixing, you can nominate that pothole here. Backing Our Community Pre-Schools The NSW Government recently announced changes to our Community Preschools, which I think would undermine the choice that community schools currently provide. As a mum with young children, who has used both childcare and community pre-schools, I know the importance of early learning as well the role that community pre-schools and childcare centres play in helping parents balance work and looking after children. I believe that community pre-schools are an integral part of the early learning landscape and compliment childcare centres. I don’t think that community pre-schools should be forced to become childcare centres, especially without the funding needed to make these types of changes feasible. Extending the working hours puts pressure on an already understaffed and overworked sector, as well as risks spreading resources too thin to provide quality education to children. I will always back our community pre-schools. If you’re a parent, teacher or director and you have any experiences you would like to share, please reach out at: epping@parliament.gov.edu.au.
A win for Dundas Valley Earlier this year, the bus stop on Neptune and Alexander Street, Dundas Valley was closed without any community consultation. The closure of the bus stop made no sense given the layout of bus stops and the steep incline on surrounding streets. The bus stop should have never closed without community consultation, and I would like to thank those residents for adding their voice to this issue and pressuring the Government to reinstate the stop. If there is anything else I can assist with, please get in touch at: epping@parliament.com.au. Community Callout The Lions Club of Carlingford-Dundas is an incredible organisation dedicated to helping community by addressing humanitarian needs. I had the pleasure of meeting Lions Club members recently as part of an initiative to make thousands of sandwiches for school kids. It was great to see the club at work. If you are looking for a new club, please check out The Lions Club of Carlingford-Dundas here. |
