I wanted to provide two community updates that you might find useful.
New Tenancy Laws
You may have read in the news that significant new laws came into effect which will:
🚫 Abolish no-grounds eviction
Tenants can no longer be evicted without reason, giving more certainty to both renters and landlords about ending a lease.
🐶 Make it easier to own pets
Renters can now own pets more easily, with changes preventing unreasonable restrictions or lack of response to applications.
📆 Limit rent increases to once in 12 months
Offers renters more predictability for their budgets and early line of sight when rents have to increase.
📱 No More Fees for App Payments
Fees to pay rent through payment apps have been scrapped! Renters can now choose convenient and fee-free methods to pay.
✅ No Charges for Background Checks
Tenants can no longer be asked to cop the bill for their own background checks, saving you money in the application process.
These reforms are an important step toward creating a fairer, more modern rental system—particularly for the growing number of people choosing to call Epping home.
However, I know there’s still more work to be done. As your newly elected State MP for Epping, I’m committed to standing up for renters.
To help guide this work, I’d love to hear directly from you. I’ve included a link below to a short survey to better understand the challenges renters are facing in Epping. Your feedback is important, so please take a moment to share your views.
