Dear Berowra Resident
It is an honour to be re-elected to represent you and our community as the Federal Member for Berowra.
In a world of growing uncertainty, our community remains a place of strength, belonging and hope.
It’s more than just where we live – it’s where we raise our families,
support one another, and shape the values we pass on to the next
generation.
These are the foundations I have fought and will continue to fight to protect over the next three years.
Our community has sent me and the Liberal Party a clear message.
We need to devise policies that ease pressure on families and help young people achieve their dreams.
Over the next few months, I will continue to take the time to listen
closely to our community. I want as many of you as possible to reach out
to me and tell me what we need to do to be ready for government, and
improve how we hold the Albanese Government to account.
I also encourage you to reach out to my office directly if you would
like to be a part of the Liberal Party's rebuild. The future of our
policy platform is critical and I want you to be a part of the
process.
Over the next three years, I pledge to continue staying close to the
community, listening to and working with you to ensure that your voices
are reflected in our policies.
Your conversations, ideas, frustrations and hopes help to shape my work
in Parliament and representing you is an honour I never take for
granted.
If you see me in the community, or have concerns that need to be brought
to my attention, please do not hesitate to speak with me or reach out
to my office.
My office and I are ready to assist you. You can contact me at julian.leeser.mp@aph.gov.au or (02) 9980 1822.

APPOINTMENT TO THE SHADOW MINISTRY
It was an honour to be announced as the
Shadow Attorney-General and Shadow Minister for the Arts in Sussan Ley's
Shadow Ministry this week.
Every Australian deserves the full protection of the law, no matter their background.
Returning to this role will allow me to continue holding the
Albanese Government to account, to ensure the integrity of our legal
system.
Australia’s legal institutions are among the oldest in the world and are critical to the success of Australia’s democracy.
I’m also excited to take on the Arts portfolio.
Having served on arts boards, I understand some of the opportunities and challenges the sector faces.
I want to see the arts in Australia play an important creative,
economic, and strategic role for our country to ensure our budding
artists can achieve their full potential.

GETTING TO KNOW SUSSAN LEY
Following the 2025 Federal election, the Liberal Party chose the Honourable Sussan Ley to be its leader.
Sussan is the first woman to lead our party since its foundation in
the mid-1940s and has the most diverse background of anyone who has led
our party, and of anyone in the Parliament.
Born in Nigeria, Sussan subsequently went to school in the United
Kingdom, followed by the United Arab Emirates and later, Australia.
She has worked variously as a commercial pilot, an air traffic
controller, a shearer's cook, a woollen beef farmer and an official of
the Australian Taxation Office.
In 2001, Sussan was elected the Member for Farrer on the New
South Wales-Victorian border and has served as a Minister in previous
Liberal Governments across the portfolios of Environment, Health
and Aged Care and Sport, Family Community Services and Agriculture
Fisheries and Forestry as well as having been an Assistant Minister for
Education and Assistant Minister for Regional Development and
Territories.

In 2022, Sussan was elected as the Deputy
Leader of the Liberal Party and was the Shadow Minister for Industry
Skills and Training, Shadow Minister for Small and Family Business and
the Shadow Minister for Women.
Sussan has visited our electorate on several occasions in the last term
of parliament, notably to view the devastation caused by the
Hawkesbury River floods in 2022.
More recently, at the end of 2024, Sussan visited a number of
the small businesses with me in Hornsby in her role as Shadow
Minister for Small Business.
Sussan's understanding of rural and regional issues in particular mean
that she's well across the issues that families in the peri-urban
areas of our electorate face.
I know Sussan will come and visit our electorate on several occasions
during this term, and I look forward to many of you having the
opportunity to meet her.

HORNSBY KU-RING-GAI COMMUNITY COLLEGE CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
Recently, I was honoured to attend Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College’s 100-year celebration.
For a century, this College has stood as a beacon of opportunity,
inclusion and transformation in our community. It has played a central
role in adult and community education across our region, not only
responding to educational needs, but actively shaping what community
learning looks like locally, and across Australia.
HKCC has long welcomed those with barriers to work or learning, helping
them create better futures for themselves, their families, and their
communities.
The College now support over 1,600 students annually, with more than 5,000 enrolments in 2024.
I’ve long been a supporter of quality education and improving
educational outcomes – and this extends to the work of community
colleges like HKCC.
Congratulations HKCC on this extraordinary centenary. May the next
hundred years be marked by the same spirit, a belief in people, a
passion for learning, and a deep commitment to our community.

**NEW** WHATS ON IN THE BEROWRA ELECTORATE
Our
community is filled with many local organisations, all of who put on
fantastic events throughout the year for everyone to attend.
I want to begin using my monthly e-newsletters to promote and encourage
you to get out to these local activites, and bring awareness to the
diversity of what is on offer across the Berowra Electorate.

|
|
This month, I want to shed light on what I have said is "musical season" for our community.
We are lucky to have several musical societies, as well as local
schools who put on high-calibre musicals for us to enjoy.
For example, The Little Mermaid, which was put on by Pacific Hills
Christian School featured an enormous 200 students from years 2-12
involved in the cast, orchestra, and crew.
It was a delight to meet so many proud family members and friends of
those involved, and incredibly hardworking staff who allowed this
performance to be the success it was.
Dural
Musical Society continue to be a shining light in our community’s
artistic pursuits, with their run of, Little Women wrapping up
tomorrow evening.
If you are yet to see it, you can click here for tickets!
There are also the following shows currently running across the electorate:
My e-newsletters are distributed at the end of every month, so if you
have any community-based events which you would like to promote, please
email me at julian.leeser.mp@aph.gov.au and I will include them in next
month's community update!
