Mayor’s message

Our Draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan is currently on public exhibition. This important document outlines the many projects and initiatives Council will work on over the next four years, and I encourage you to share your feedback bef​ore 11 M​ay.

This month, we also mark National Volunteer Week fr​om 18–​24 M​ay, a time to recognise the important role volunteers play in supporting our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gives their time freely, whether for Council, emergency services, charities, sports clubs, schools and many other community organisations. Your contribution makes a real difference to the lives of others.

Soft Plastic recycling is back at Thornleigh Community Recycling Centre (CRC)!

Our residents can once again recycle soft plastics at the CRC.

When your soft plastics are dropped off at the CRC, they are sent in trucks containing one tonne of material to iQRenew on the NSW mid north coast. That’s roughly 100,000 plastic bags!

There, the plastics are processed into pellets and then manufactured into new products we can all use, such as buckets, crates, and pavers.

So come on down to the CRC to recycle your soft plastics and stay tuned for more updates on how you can become involved in our local circular economy!

Only clean, dry, soft, scrunchable plastics without foil/silver lining or sticky labels. No wet, dirty or contaminated soft plastic accepted please. Items must be 100% soft plastic.

A win for community sport

The Mark Taylor Oval pavilion at Waitara officially opened in March, delivering modern, inclusive facilities for local sport and the wider community. The new pavilion and upgraded grandstand support cricket and rugby at all levels, with accessible and female friendly change rooms that make it easier for women and girls to take part. Inside, the pavilion includes a canteen, community and club space, scorer’s room, storage and public amenities.

As the final stage of major upgrades at Waitara Park, the project strengthens the precinct as an important local sporting hub and reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to healthy, active communities. The project was delivered in partnership with the NSW Government and Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia.
